POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direct (Building and Facilities Technician I) to general (Building and Facilities Technician II) supervision, the technician will engage in various semi-skilled and skilled activities associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of District buildings and facilities. Key areas of focus include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, masonry, and plumbing, among others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on District facilities.
  • Assist in the construction and alteration of building structures.
  • Utilize tools and equipment related to various trades effectively.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and ensure timely completion of tasks.

POSITION DETAILS:

The Building and Facilities Technician I is an entry-level position, providing an opportunity to learn and grow within the field. Initially, tasks will be performed under close supervision, with increasing independence as skills develop. The Building and Facilities Technician II represents a journey-level classification, where the technician will work autonomously and apply judgment in various situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position may require on-call duties, including weekend shifts and emergency responses with minimal notice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should possess a combination of experience and education that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities. A valid California driver's license is also necessary.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair principles in multiple trades.
  • Ability to operate specialized tools and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
