About the Job

This position requires an individual with expertise in playing the organ, accompanied by excellent communication and technical skills. The successful candidate will work closely with the Pastoral Care Department at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

The role involves providing musical support for Protestant worship and Roman Catholic mass, as well as contributing to the command chaplain's efforts to maintain a positive environment through music.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • The selected candidate will perform organ accompaniments for worship services, utilizing their knowledge of hymnals and church music literature.
  • They will also assist the command chaplain in preparing reports and submitting requests for necessary resources.
  • A schedule of services will be provided to the candidate in advance to facilitate effective planning.
Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this position, applicants must possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of two years of music education and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in playing the organ, including knowledge of various styles and literature.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills sufficient for creating and sending reports.
  • A good command of the English language.
