Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and physically fit individual to join our construction team as a Hillside Laborer. This role involves performing a variety of manual construction tasks, including pipe work, under the direction of a crew foreman.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cut, measure, and hook pipes to ensure accurate installation.
  • Support the pipe installation process by supplying materials, tools, and equipment to the trench.
  • Assist with pre-assembly of pipe on the top of the hill.
  • Mix mortar and concrete for manholes.
  • Load, unload, or distribute materials, machinery, or tools to and from designated locations.
  • Use picks, shovels, and rakes to level earth or asphalt to grade specifications.
  • Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts.
  • Tend pumps, compressors, or generators.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • May operate a variety of power and hand tools, including air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, mechanical hoists, surveying, measuring, and other equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area by disposing of trash and debris properly.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Promote and adhere to the company's safety program.
Requirements
  • Able to operate a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools and power tools.
  • Able to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisor and co-workers.
  • General knowledge of road construction processes.
  • Demonstrate a safety-first attitude and strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to assigned worksites.
Work Environment

This role involves working in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. You will frequently work near heavy equipment and moving mechanical parts and be frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. You may be exposed to a variety of substances found on construction sites, such as oil, grease, gasoline, concrete, and diesel fuel. Periodically, you will be exposed to fumes, lubricants, airborne particles, and dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two (2) years recent experience working as a Hillman (road construction) or equivalent experience.
  • Active Driver's license.
