Position Summary

The Medical Imaging Technologist conducts radiographic examinations with minimal oversight under the guidance of the Radiologist. This role involves coordinating daily responsibilities, which include executing examinations and performing related administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts and assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging procedures.
  • Records patient history relevant to the specific examination on the requisition provided by the physician.
  • Verifies patient identity through verbal confirmation and validation of identification proof.
  • Prepares and administers contrast agents as necessary.
  • Engages with radiologists and other medical professionals as required.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment according to the specific needs of each procedure, demonstrating proper anatomical positioning skills.
  • Maintains accurate records in accordance with departmental standards.
Physical Demands
This position requires significant physical effort, including assisting patients from wheelchairs and stretchers, as well as handling equipment and monitoring supplies. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for interaction with patients and healthcare staff. The role may involve frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling while operating imaging equipment. Manual dexterity is necessary for precise manipulation of radiographic tools, especially when dealing with patients who are injured or ill. Vision and hearing capabilities for distances up to 10 feet are required. The role may expose the technologist to various physical conditions throughout the workday, such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment. Adaptability to changes in temperature and humidity is also essential.

Qualifications and Certifications

Proficient in performing radiographic examinations while adhering to radiation safety protocols to ensure high-quality imaging with general supervision under the Radiologist's direction. Successful completion of a formal Radiology Technology Program from an accredited institution is mandatory. Registration with the ARRT is required, or if a recent graduate, must be registry eligible and achieve registration within one year of employment. A minimum of one year of direct patient care experience is preferred. BLS certification is required in accordance with policy guidelines.
