Job Summary

As a Ferryboat Engineer III at the Texas Department of Transportation, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our ferryboats. This includes monitoring and maintaining the machinery, equipment, and related shore facility systems necessary for ferryboat operations under normal and emergency conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and lead a group of employees performing preventive maintenance, major repair, and overhaul of motor ferry vessels, landings, work docks, and miscellaneous motorized equipment.
  • Analyze reports of malfunctions or abnormal conditions that may affect the stability or operational capability of the vessel and determine corrective action.
  • Direct vessel refueling operations and discharging of raw sewage and bilge wastewater in accordance with safety regulations and in compliance with the Federal Waters Pollution Control Act.
  • Inspect and conduct operational tests of emergency generators, firefighting, and dewatering pumps and other associated equipment, piping, and systems.
  • Participate in periodic all-hands emergency drills and exercises.

Requirements:

  • 8 years of experience in repair, maintenance, and operation of marine equipment.
  • Valid Texas driver's license at time of application.
  • USCG MMC of Chief Engineer 5000 HP or greater at time of application.
  • Transp Worker ID Cred - TWIC at time of application.
