Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer provides treatment, first aid, and sports medicine coverage for athletic events according to contract with designated schools. This role is patient-focused, adhering to physician orders and affiliate policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assessment and Treatment: Assess, treat, prevent, and rehabilitate athletic injuries for designated schools, including practice and game coverage per contract.
  2. Treatment Techniques: Provide treatment techniques to facilitate and restore optimal functioning performance specific to certified athletic trainer's patient care area.
  3. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Complete daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Record and track daily activities at designated schools.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Patient Education: Educate patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods.
  2. Communication and Teamwork: Demonstrate effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care, including coordination with interdisciplinary team members.
  3. Professional Development: Promote education and development among staff, students, and other healthcare providers using relevant and effective teaching methods.
  4. Process Improvement: Promote process improvement.
  5. Program Development: Assist with program development.
  6. Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of patient and affiliate information in accordance with MyMichigan Health and affiliate policies and procedures.
Requirements
  1. Experience and Training: Successful completion of MyMichigan Health and affiliate-specific orientation. Successful completion of new hire competency.
  2. Interpersonal Skills: Interpersonal skills needed for effective verbal and written communication in the English language to interact with people individually and in a group at all levels and to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  3. Problem-Solving and Organizational Skills: Ability to work independently, demonstrating problem-solving and organizational skills, time management skills, and initiative.
  4. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA): Mandatory OSHA is required and must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
  5. Physical and Mental Requirements: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief, and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Working Conditions

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Some exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health blood-borne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance, and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly % or the workday) 10 lbs.
