POSITION SUMMARY

The role involves conducting echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms as requested by the referring physician. The candidate should possess the ability to interpret echocardiographic results to generate preliminary reports for cardiologists.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Completion of an accredited echocardiography program (preferably CAAHEP accredited).
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Preferred experience of 1 to 3 years in a similar role.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from recognized organizations, or the ability to obtain certification within six weeks of employment.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Proficiency in performing echocardiograms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology and administrative tasks related to scheduling, order entry, and patient interactions.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Competence with all relevant echocardiography equipment.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency or critical situations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide clear explanations of the echocardiogram procedure, including exam details and expected duration, while addressing logistical inquiries without disclosing preliminary results.
  • Prepare patients by positioning them appropriately, applying ultrasound gels and electrodes, and ensuring accurate ECG connections.
  • Generate high-quality echocardiographic images in compliance with facility protocols and IAC standards, optimizing images through various adjustments.
  • Conduct 2-3 beat acquisitions of cardiac structures and measure parameters such as wall thickness, chamber size, ejection fraction, and hemodynamics, while comparing with previous results for evaluation.
  • Adhere to facility policies and maintain patient confidentiality by following established procedures.
  • Engage in IAC meetings and fulfill quarterly quality assurance requirements, staying updated with continuing medical education and license renewals.
  • Assist cardiologists and anesthesiologists with transesophageal echocardiograms in various settings, demonstrating proficiency in stress echocardiography techniques.
  • Utilize Definity contrast when necessary and communicate its purpose to patients, performing bubble studies with the assistance of nursing staff when appropriate.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and foster positive interactions with colleagues and patients, demonstrating courtesy and teamwork.
