Position Highlights:


Your expertise in family-centered care, along with your understanding of growth, development, and pathophysiology specific to neonates, will be utilized to assess, plan, educate, intervene, and evaluate effectively.

The NICU nurse is proficient in specialized procedures and equipment tailored for this unique patient demographic. The NICU RN is accountable for delivering level III and level II care to infants admitted to the NICU.

We implement a Family Integrated Care (FIC) model, where parents are educated and encouraged to collaborate with the care team, supported by an interdisciplinary approach.

As active participants in the Vermont Oxford Network, we are committed to quality improvement, evidence-based practices, and research, which are essential to our culture of safety and excellence.

In our NICU, we typically care for an average of 12 patients, with ratios of 1-2 for level III RNs and 2-3 for level II RNs. Our staffing includes 7 RNs per shift, supported by a full resuscitation team consisting of an MD, NNP, and RT.

Scope of Service:


Nursing care is provided to premature infants as early as 25 weeks gestational age, those requiring respiratory support, and infants needing a higher level of care than a standard well baby.
Nursing competencies maintained at level II and level III NICU skill mix.

Common Diagnoses:
Single or multiple infants born via cesarean
Single or multiple infants born vaginally
Respiratory distress in newborns
Extreme prematurity (25.0 weeks to 32.0 weeks)
Prematurity (32.1 weeks to term)
Transient tachypnea
Placental transfusion syndrome
Sepsis

26-bed Mother Baby Unit
18-bed Labor & Delivery Unit (12 labor and 6 antepartum beds) with 2 operating rooms
27-bed level IIIA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Qualifications:


Requires a BSN or a non-nursing Bachelor's Degree with an MSN for all external applicants at Salem Hospital, preferred for West Valley Hospital.
A Bachelor of Arts in Nursing is also acceptable.
Current and unrestricted Oregon nursing license required.
A minimum of one (1) year of acute care RN experience is mandatory.
BLS certification is required.
NRP certification within 90 days is necessary.
STABLE certification required within 12 months.
