Personnel Technician

Under the direction of a supervisor, the Personnel Technician will serve as a specialist in classified personnel transactions, performing administrative support tasks, technical duties, and responsible duties involved in hiring classified personnel. The incumbent will maintain classified personnel records, perform skilled clerical and records work, and perform tasks related to preparing and processing data input for data entry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide accurate technical and procedural information to applicants, employees, and the public regarding personnel practices.
- Assist in recruitment of employees, including preparing and distributing job vacancy notices, preparing and administering skills testing, and arranging for interviews.
- Provide orientation to new employees on District personnel practices, benefits, salary schedules, and other relevant information.
- Compile, type, and process certificated and classified personnel sections of the board agenda involving new hires, leaves of absence, separations, transfers, and other changes in employee status.
- Compile, process, and maintain confidential personnel files, and other related documentation pertinent to the requirements of the District or Education Code.
- Maintain confidential files of correspondence, resignations, leaves of absence, sabbaticals, transfers, and related records and documents.
- Compile informational and statistical reports, periodic and special, including employment, salary, and benefit surveys.
- Maintain substitutes list; arrange for substitutes as authorized.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of credentials for certificated personnel and applicants, assist in credential requirements, and process State of California life diplomas.
- Verify with County that proper certificated credentials have been recorded.
- Notify certificated personnel of expiration dates of credentials.
- Maintain contact with the State Department of Education regarding credential requirements and changes.
- Establish employment and processing of certificated and/or classified substitutes.
- Maintain records pertaining to certificated substitutes credentials, assignments, and hours worked, and performance evaluations.
- Compose and type correspondence and form letters from rough drafts, verbal instructions, or dictation.
- Perform routine and/or specialized clerical and administrative activities such as state and federal reports, unemployment insurance claims, and special programs of employment.
- Receive staff members and guests as needed.
- Operate standard office equipment.
- Prepare, submit, and enter in computer change notices in personnel status such as pay increases and budget changes.
- Maintain complete personnel data system.
- Modern office practices and procedures.
- Interpret, communicate, and apply rules, regulations, laws, and policies.
- Compose letters independently.
- Communicate effectively with officials, employees, and the public.
- Assume responsibility and exercise sound judgment.
- Meet strict deadlines.
- Schedule and coordinate a variety of work.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Any combination equivalent to: High School Diploma or equivalent, with one year of college preferred; Three years of responsible clerical, recordkeeping, and data interpretation experience; and Evidence of effective interpersonal and communication skills.
