Position Overview

This position is part of the Army National Guard Units and is designated as a Title 32 Excepted Service role.


Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces by eliminating rust, paint, and loose debris. This includes sanding and smoothing out imperfections to ensure a flawless finish using various tools such as sanders, scrapers, and brushes.

Key tasks include:

  • Interpreting instructions related to the mixing, application, and use of diverse coating materials and solvents.
  • Preparing coating substances through tinting, toning, and blending to achieve the desired results.
  • Applying primer, intermediate, and final coats of various finishes including semi-gloss, gloss, and specialty coatings.
  • Ensuring that the final appearance and texture meet established standards.
  • Replacing and applying necessary markings and lettering.
  • Utilizing Chemical Agent Reactive Coating (CARC) materials in strict accordance with specifications.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following military requirements:

  • Must hold a compatible military grade and assignment prior to placement.
  • Membership in the National Guard is required for this Excepted Service position.
  • Applicants not currently in the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.

Selected candidates will need to be in a compatible military role before starting and must achieve MOS qualification within 12 months of appointment.


Experience Requirements

General experience should demonstrate knowledge of surface preparation techniques and coating methods, including:

  • Experience with various coating materials.
  • Ability to effectively use tools associated with the painting profession.
  • Capacity to read and interpret technical instructions.

Specialized experience is defined as having at least 12 months of relevant experience that showcases:

  • Knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating techniques.
  • Skills in sanding, scraping, and preparing surfaces.
  • Ability to apply coating materials using various methods.
  • Capability to interpret and follow technical specifications.
