About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacist - PRN Specialist to join our team at Sisters of Charity Health System.

Job Overview

This is a part-time position that requires the candidate to have strong clinical skills and excellent communication abilities. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team to provide high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice
    • Fill prescriptions accurately and efficiently, ensuring that patients receive the correct medication and dosage.
    • Review patient profiles to ensure appropriate and safe drug therapy, identifying potential therapeutic duplication, significant drug interactions, and avoidable allergy interactions.
    • Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify controversial orders and provide drug information.
    • Participate in formulary management, performing therapeutic interchanges per policy, and maintaining pharmaceutical quality assurance standards.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient medications, including dispensing logs and perpetual inventories.
    • Complete and sign End-of-Day logs for all prescriptions processed daily and/or monthly, as required by Pharmacy policy.
    • Ensure daily logs for refrigerator temperature are completed, and maintain Education Log.
  • Safety and Security
    • Follow established safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries, disposing of waste properly and locating MSDS sheets, disaster manual, safety manual, Infection control, P&P, etc.
    • Maintain security of pharmacy and controlled substances, supervising activities of support staff effectively.
  • Clinical Activities and Quality Improvement
    • Reviews patient chart for requisite background information prior to contacting physician, and ensures appropriateness of drug dose and frequency for each medication ordered before dispensing.
    • Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided, using systematic methods to improve services, plan changes, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Customer Service and Teamwork
    • Perform tasks demonstrating service orientation to fellow employees and staff members, providing excellent customer service and communicating information clearly and accurately in a courteous manner and tone.
    • Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other members of Comprehensive Pharmacy Services and hospital and pharmacy staff, fostering a team environment and adapting to changes in workload and work schedule.

The estimated salary for this position is approximately $120,000-$150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Requirements
  • Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
  • Current license in state of employment.
  • One to two years' retail/outpatient pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Retail chain experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient counseling, drug therapy, and drug-drug interactions.
  • Certifications in Immunization and Medication Therapy Management a plus.
