Key Position Details
  • 0.9 FTE (72 hours per two-week schedule)
  • 12-hour, evening shifts
  • Every third weekend rotation (Fri, Sat, Sun)
Job Description

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, the Patient Care Technician will provide basic direct and indirect patient care. This includes taking and documenting vital signs, answering call lights, assisting patients with activities of daily living, and performing clerical duties.

Responsibilities
  1. Observe, collect, and document health status data as assigned.
  2. Complete measurements according to critical elements of policy/procedures, which may include: temperatures, radial pulses, blood pressures, respirations, weights, intake and output.
  3. Report immediately to the RN observations/health status data that are not within normal limits for the patient or are significantly changed.
  4. Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) which could include toileting, bathing, dressing, eating etc. with direction from the Registered Nurse.
  5. Document according to documentation guidelines.
  6. Perform personal care/interventions as assigned.
  7. Assist patients, family members and visitors with way finding on the unit and throughout the facility. May assist with patient transfer, movement and/or rooming.
  8. Complete interventions according to identified critical elements of each procedure.
  9. Answers patient call lights promptly for both assigned and other patients.
  10. Assists patient with grooming and hygiene needs, maintains skin integrity, personal comfort and population specific needs of the patient.
  11. Completes admission/discharge/transfer functions per system workflow.
  12. Performs clerical duties and assists with patient registration.
  13. Performs accurate and timely processing of physician orders.
  14. Thoroughly document relevant patient information (or care) to assure accurate billing.
  15. Transport medication from the tube system on the unit to secure location in accordance with facility standards.
  16. Clarifies, communicates, prioritizes, and transcribes written orders per Electronic Medical Record system workflow.
  17. May order, validate and store supplies and patient education materials.
  18. May need to print Release of Information (ROI) packet for discharge to nursing home or other facilities.
  19. Review and explain authorization forms with patient and obtain signatures if applicable.
  20. Schedules procedures/appointments as needed.
  21. Contributes to an environment that is safe for patients, visitors and employees.
  22. Protects patient, self and others from injury during transfers, lifts and transports by using proper equipment and body mechanics.
  23. Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  24. Uses equipment following policies, procedures and manufacturer directions or standards.
  25. Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve patient care.
  26. May handle hazardous waste (identifies, segregates, and disposes of hazardous waste; ensures container integrity; knows emergency response procedures to spills, fires, and evacuation procedures).
Requirements
  • Must meet one of the following requirements:
  • 18 years of age OR:
  • 17 years of age with high school diploma or GED
  • Must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Completion of one semester of clinical rotations with an accredited nursing program OR:
  • Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program OR:
  • Completion of the Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy Program OR:
  • NREMT certification upon hire OR:
  • Previous direct patient care experience
  • Must meet one of the requirements below:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association OR:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross OR:
  • Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire
