You will need strong knowledge of major components of substations and the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation. You will also need strong knowledge and proven experience creating bills of materials as it relates to a substation. Additionally, you will need strong knowledge of physical substation layout, elevations, grounding, foundations, and conduit. Ability to produce steel drawings is a plus. You will also need general knowledge of control circuits and ground grid theory and design. Extensive knowledge of CADD programs such as AutoCAD is required. Strong knowledge of civil/structural codes and standards (NESC, and applicable IEEE, ANSI, AISC, and ACI) is a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook is also required. Mathematics, including algebra and basic trigonometry, will also be necessary. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to effectively convey information to team members, management, and clients when necessary are a must.
