Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tooling Design Engineer to join our team at Belcan. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will be responsible for designing and developing complex assembly fixtures to support airframe operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design ownership of complex assembly fixtures to support airframe operations.
  • Design, develop, and implement manufacturing aids and equipment such as jigs, fixtures, molds, etc.
  • Develop and maintain company tool design standards.
  • Produce easy-to-follow prints and shop floor drawings with strong GD&T understanding.
  • Coordinate and support tooling activities across various departments, including airframe design, structural analysis, planning, vendors & suppliers, manufacturing, production, quality assurance, testing, and tool fabrication.
  • Provide knowledge and guidance to less experienced team members.
Requirements
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering (or AS + related experience).
  • Work experience in automotive or aerospace tooling design.
  • Well-versed in CAD packages, ideally CATIA 3DX or V6.
  • 5-10 years related work experience.
  • Composites tooling assembly experience.
  • Experience working with CATIA, NX, Creo, or SolidWorks and PLM systems.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and common drafting practices in compliance with ASME Y14.5 & Y.
  • Experience in composite manufacturing processes: manual layup, AFP, autoclave operation, hot press, assembly processes, etc.
  • Experience in prototype manufacturing in a professional environment.
  • Experience with FEA, hand calculations, and documenting results.
  • Excellent verbal communication with internal departments and external vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3DX / CATIA V6 experience.
  • LFAM tooling design and fabrication experience.
  • Experience inspecting parts and tools with Polyworks or equivalent metrology software.
