CNC Machinist Job Description

At Steven Douglas Corp, we're dedicated to pushing the boundaries of automation and delivering innovative machines that meet the needs of various industries. As a CNC Machinist, you'll play a crucial role in operating and programming CNC machines to manufacture precision parts and components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up, program, and operate CNC mills and lathes with minimal assistance.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create or modify CNC programs.
  • Perform CNC machine setup, including tooling, fixtures, and materials installation, and calibration for proper alignment and settings.
  • Write and modify programs for increased efficiency and accuracy.
  • Translate instructions into a CAM program, with a preference for MasterCam.
  • Reduce setup time and machining through process improvements.
  • Check completed programs by running simulations or tests.
  • Have a working knowledge of Solidworks and prepare geometric layouts of designs.
  • Monitor and manage programs to ensure they follow blueprint instructions.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on CNC machines for smooth and safe operation.
  • Comply with company safety guidelines, including PPE and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience as a CNC lathe and mill machinist.
  • Technical degree or certification in CNC machining is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Expert knowledge of machining qualities, properties, and uses of various raw materials.
  • Ability to participate and coordinate with engineers and project teams.
  • Experience with Haas automation equipment.
  • Experience programming with MasterCam software.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Setup and operation of manual Knee Mills, Lathes, and Grinders preferred.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift and move objects over 50 pounds.
