About the RoleWe're seeking a seasoned Lead Materials & Process Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our Engineering vertical, you'll apply your technical expertise to support components across our vehicle, driving the development and implementation of conventional and novel materials and process solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and lead the Materials & Process team's workflows, focusing on composites and structural bonding.
- Develop and implement design requirements and standard methodologies for all hardware on the vehicle.
- Evaluate and select composite materials and adhesives to meet design requirements.
- Coordinate the development of adhesively bonded joints and assemblies.
- Build internal material specifications and process specifications that support manufacturing and ensure quality.
- Lead and coordinate testing for method development, materials characterization, allowables generation, and design validation.
- Represent the Materials & Process team in design reviews, production drawing release cycles, and Material Review Board issues.
- Coordinate supplier selection, development, qualifications, and ongoing evaluations.
- Develop procedures for reviewing supplier-delivered hardware for compliance with requirements.
- Assist in building top-level Materials & Process control plans and documentation.
- Support the manufacture of hardware in-house and at our suppliers.
- Participate in industry working groups, standards bodies, and technical conferences to maintain awareness of technology developments and regulatory trends.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Partner with the PMO organization to implement build plans.
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field; Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
- Minimum ten years of experience in related fields, with a strong background in thermoset fiber composites, thermoplastic fiber composites, structural bonding, adhesives, plastics, and physical and mechanical material characterization.
- Experience with qualification and implementation of automated/robotic composite processes.
- Knowledge of process mapping, SPC, PFMEA, DFMEA, and similar tools and techniques.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software and proficiency in drafting test plans, coordinating and implementing test campaigns, and generating test reports.
- Ability to run materials characterization lab equipment and perform composite layups and bagging.
- Knowledge of CMH-17, SAE, ASTM, and other standard bodies.
- Understanding of Six Sigma, Lean, and DOE principles.
- Proficiency in writing R&D work instructions and documentation of R&D work.
As a Lead Materials & Process Engineer at Supernal, you'll enjoy a competitive salary range of $204,200-$260,700 USD, plus a bonus as part of your total compensation package.
