The Delaware Solid Waste Authority is looking to hire a full-time Sustainability Analyst to oversee landfill gas operations. NOTE: This position is classified as safety-sensitive and requires drug testing as a condition of employment.

OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this role is to ensure that the Delaware Solid Waste Authority fulfills all necessary environmental monitoring and testing mandated by the permits that govern the operation of municipal solid waste landfills in Delaware.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions of this position are fundamental and core to the role, and while they are not exhaustive, they provide a clear overview of the expected duties.

  • Oversees the collection of environmental data.
  • Analyzes gathered data and prepares reports, including assessments of the data.
  • Conducts field investigations related to soil, groundwater, surface water, leachate, and gas venting, focusing on air quality around the landfill.
  • Prepares, summarizes, and reports findings from field investigations.
  • Generates monthly technical reports.
  • Prepares written submissions required by permits.
  • Engages in fieldwork associated with environmental data collection.
  • Responsible for selecting, procuring, installing, and maintaining all environmental monitoring equipment.
  • May respond to emergency situations as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Procures safety equipment for field operations as necessary.
  • Assists in overseeing construction projects.
  • Contributes to the preparation of semi-annual and annual reports.
  • Performs other assigned duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. No prior experience is necessary. A valid driver's license and CPR and First Aid certification are required (training provided by the Delaware Solid Waste Authority). Candidates should possess knowledge of environmental science principles and practices, controlled sampling techniques, data collection methods, and the ability to interpret regulations. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position involves standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to distinguish colors), and peripheral vision (ability to observe areas outside a fixed point) are necessary. The role may expose the individual to various environmental conditions, including noise, extreme temperatures, moisture, dust, fumes, gases, and potential hazards. EOE
