Overview & Responsibilities:
The Culinary Specialist is responsible for hands-on cooking and food preparation within our community's culinary program. This role ensures a high standard of quality service and cleanliness at all times.

The essential duties and responsibilities outlined below represent typical tasks performed by a team member in this position.

  • Maintain community standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and operational organization.
  • Adhere to food quality, appearance, and presentation standards consistently.
  • Prepare and serve menu items that comply with required nutritional and dietary guidelines.
  • Exhibit cooking standards of speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of food preparation and production.
  • Engage with residents to assess food service quality, including taste, temperature, and presentation; make necessary adjustments to enhance service.
  • Foster a culture of hospitality; all team members are expected to practice excellent customer service in all interactions.
  • Plan, prepare, present, and deliver all meals served within the community.
  • Ensure a sanitary work environment and comply with local food storage and handling regulations.
  • Inspect food storage areas for cleanliness and supply management.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks, including forms, reports, and evaluations to manage equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly dining area.
  • Obtain and maintain Serv Safe/Food Handler's Permit.
  • Process dietary changes and collaborate on therapeutic and regular diet plans as needed.
  • Prepare food items for special events and activities as requested.
  • Interact with residents, families, and visitors with tact and friendliness.
  • Promote teamwork through cooperative interactions with colleagues and other departments.
  • Uphold a positive and professional image through actions and appearance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary Experience.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in restaurant or senior living culinary roles.
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and menus for regular and therapeutic diets.
  • Capacity to make independent decisions without supervision.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, team members, and the public, especially in stressful situations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey directions to team members.
  • Demonstrate good character and a high degree of personal integrity, showing compassion towards older adults.
  • Genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of seniors and their families.
  • Required to receive the annual Flu vaccine, with exceptions for religious or medical reasons.
