CDL Class A Driver Job Description

Approved Freight Forwarders, a part of The DeWitt Companies, is seeking an experienced CDL Class A driver to join our team in City of Industry. As a CDL Class A driver, you will be responsible for driving and operating trucks, performing pre-and post-trip inspections, and ensuring the truck is in compliance and safe to operate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive and operate trucks safely and efficiently
  • Perform pre-and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in compliance and safe to operate
  • Perform daily maintenance of the truck, including refueling and cleaning
  • Report all damages and/or injuries in a timely manner
  • Properly secure the cargo load to prevent damages and/or injuries
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive according to weather/road conditions
  • Load and unload cargo (if applicable)
  • Adhere to all company Safety practices, policies, and procedures, including DOT requirements
  • Pick up goods and materials, verify loads for accuracy, compliance, and deliver as instructed
  • Complete and verify paperwork for accuracy
  • Follow directions and maintain open communication with supervisors, dispatchers, and customers
Requirements:
  • Must have a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A
  • Driver history must consist of no violations, at-fault accidents, or traffic-related convictions within 3 years
  • No DUI/DWI convictions
  • 1-3 years of local port driving experience
  • A current DHR from the DMV is a must
  • Ability to drive safely irrespective of the weather or time of day
  • Hazmat endorsements and TWIC card are required
  • Must be able to pass and complete a pre-employment DOT physical exam & drug test to obtain a Medical Card as required by the DOT
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Enter and exit equipment by stepping and kneeling
  • Crouch and squat for pre & port inspections
