SUPPLY CHAIN OVERVIEW

The Supply Chain team at Rocket Lab is pivotal in managing the flow of materials, products, and components essential to our operations. With our products serving as vital components for both our missions and those of our clients, the Supply Chain team directly influences the success of our rocket and satellite initiatives. They are responsible for assembling kits that enable our technicians to construct Electron rockets, managing inventory, overseeing shipping and receiving, and ensuring compliance with all material standards.

POSITION: Commodity Manager - Marine

Located at Rocket Lab's headquarters, the Commodity Manager for Marine will oversee the management of our Barge landing craft, a crucial element of the Neutron project. This role is part of our Indirect Purchasing team, which supports procurement across Rocket Lab, with a specific focus on the Neutron launch program. The ideal candidate will possess experience in managing shipyards or technical program developments and will report to the Senior Manager of Indirect Purchasing, concentrating on the commercial aspects of bringing the Barge project to completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all Supply Chain Management functions related to the Marine Category, including cost management, scheduling, and strategic planning. This includes issuing Requests for Quotations, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier agreements.
  • Address various aspects of commodity management, such as market trends, technology advancements, cost analysis, and sourcing strategies.
  • Act as Rocket Lab's external representative, managing supplier relationships and conducting performance evaluations, including dispute resolution and business reviews.
  • Negotiate supplier pricing based on fundamental principles to establish competitive cost structures for construction and marine operations.
  • Facilitate internal communication regarding supply, costs, and quality with senior management, developing and implementing plans to mitigate supplier-related issues.
  • Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team environment, demonstrating strong teamwork skills to achieve company-wide objectives.
  • Travel to shipyards as necessary to oversee operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in supply chain or commodity management.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in aerospace, automotive manufacturing, marine, or other technical industries.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and provide insights on cost and manufacturability.
  • Experience in a rapidly growing environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with effective prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vision capabilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate a computer keyboard, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to commute to various buildings.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and moderate noise levels.
