Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Summary: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a key member of our team, working closely with the Medical Director to ensure that medical services meet the highest standards. This role requires a strong background in psychiatric mental health nursing and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintains high standards of patient care through policies and procedures, inspections, education, and supervision.
- Completes initial psychiatric evaluations for clients, including history, current medications, and pertinent medical and psychiatric history.
- Works with the Medical Director to develop medication regimens tailored to each client's needs.
- Provides education and support to clients and program staff to promote medication adherence.
- Collaborates with residential and clinical departments to address clinical situations and provide consultation as needed.
- Communicates with community-based physicians and participates in agency-wide training on medical and psychiatric services.
- May conduct training sessions on various topics related to medical and psychiatric services.
- Provides on-call accessibility as arranged by the Medical Director.
- Performs initial physical exams, urgent, primary, and psychiatric care for all clients.
- Participates in staff training and facility training as necessary.
- Provides emergency first aid and CPR as needed.
- Participates in emergency drills and follows emergency procedures.
- Is a mandated abuse reporter.
- Performs other duties as allowed by licensure.
Knowledge and Skills: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse populations. They must also have a strong understanding of community resources, tact, and diplomacy, with the ability to exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
Employment Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and a furnishing license. Five years of experience in a mental health setting and two years of experience in furnishing psychiatric medications are required. Volunteer and internship experience will be considered.
Additional Training Requirements: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner must meet the minimum licensing requirement of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and maintain it. This position serves psychiatric clients with special medical concerns such as diabetes, respiratory conditions, or special population requirements such as elderly or people receiving injectable medications.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will work in conjunction with the Clinic Supervisor to orient, train, and schedule other medical personnel providing services for the agency.
Special Requirements: Must be able to meet and receive criminal records clearance as required by Title XXII, licensing regulations. This includes FBI and DOJ clearance. A health screening by or under the direction of a physician must have been performed not more than one year prior to employment or within seven days after employment. Health screening must include a TB clearance not more than one year prior to employment or within seven days after employment. Employees must have a valid standard first aid card and CPR card from an accredited institution. Employees must be physically able to assist clients and/or staff in the evacuation of program facility in emergency situations. Employee must be able to administer first aid and CPR in an emergency situation.
