Staff Nurse I

The University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Nurse I to join our Emergency Services team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care and take the initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence-Based Practice, Relationship-Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and update patient plans of care based on ongoing assessments and input from patients and their families.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to promote effective patient care.
- Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and/or advanced practice nurses by performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engage and obtain information from patients and/or families to develop appropriate patient educational plans.
- Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patients' changing needs.
- Delegate tasks to support personnel as per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provide support and feedback.
- Advocate for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice, and clinical experience to provide high-quality patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other governing/accrediting healthcare bodies.
- Assume the role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.
- Collaborate with other nurses to identify, promote, and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
- Serve as a preceptor and/or resource to other nursing, support staff, and students.
- Take responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet such needs.
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
- Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history required.
- Minimum BSN preferred of an accredited nursing program.
- Nationally certified through ANCC-approved certifier.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
