Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Records Specialist I to join our team at CorVel Corporation. In this role, you will review medical records and billing, applying your nursing expertise to prepare concise medical treatment analyses and opinions on medical treatment relatedness to an injury.



Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customers to clarify specific requirements of each case.
  • Assess, review, and summarize medical records and bills in a clear and concise manner.
  • Prepare a timeline or other summary of documentation for medical records.
  • Perform evidence-based medical research to support your analysis.
  • Apply your nursing knowledge to prepare a summary, conclusion, and recommendations of medical record review and research.
  • Prepare concise, organized written reports within a specified timeframe.
  • Educate and advise attorneys and clients regarding relevant medical issues.
  • Read extensively to stay up-to-date on medical knowledge and best practices.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity, with a minimum of 95% productivity standard.
  • Attend work regularly and consistently, and comply with all safety rules and regulations.


Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, with a BSN desirable.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of operation.
  • Legal Nurse Consultant certification required.
  • 3 or more years of recent experience in a similar role, preferably with a strong clinical background in orthopedics, neurology, or rehabilitation.
  • Certification as a MSCC or CNLCP is preferred.
  • Strong cost containment background, such as utilization review or managed care, is helpful.
