Role Overview
The Public Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding all Foundation properties, ensuring the protection of exhibits, assisting employees, guests, and contractors, and responding promptly to emergencies and service requests.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct regular patrols and inspections of all Colonial Williamsburg facilities, including museums, historic properties, accommodations, and other venues.
2. Document and report any unusual conditions or incidents, providing timely updates to management.
3. Monitor safety standards and report any deficiencies.
4. Provide support and assistance to fellow Public Safety personnel.
5. Offer emergency assistance to the public as needed.
6. Execute established opening and closing procedures for designated buildings.
7. Engage in preliminary investigations of incidents, which may involve surveillance, interviewing witnesses, and collecting evidence.
8. Maintain order and resolve disputes effectively.
9. Administer first aid, CPR, and utilize an AED as necessary.
10. Enforce Foundation policies and regulations.
11. Control access to restricted areas when required.
12. Familiarize oneself with alarm systems and communication equipment to assist as needed.
13. Escort employees and guests as required.
14. Set up crowd and traffic control measures when necessary.
15. Foster open communication to build relationships and partnerships that help mitigate crime risks.

Qualifications:
- Strong public interaction skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication abilities.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and preparing reports using a computer.
- Capable of exercising sound judgment under stress.
- High school diploma or GED required; no significant criminal history.
- Must qualify annually in CPR, first aid, and AED usage.
- Availability for irregular hours, including holidays and weekends.
- Must be able to report to work during adverse weather or emergency situations.
- Successful completion of pre-employment substance abuse testing and ongoing random testing.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in public contact roles.
- Two years of college education or equivalent experience with Colonial Williamsburg.
- Current certifications in CPR, first aid, and AED usage.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods.
- Capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and kneeling.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions and environments.
