Position Overview:
As a Senior Histology Technician, you will engage in both standard and advanced procedures essential for the preparation of microscopic slides, ensuring compliance with established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute all tasks associated with the roles of Histotechnician I and II, demonstrating proficiency in tissue sample management.
2. Oversee the accurate accessioning and labeling of tissue specimens, along with the documentation related to accessioning and reporting.
3. Conduct thorough tissue processing and embed samples in paraffin with precision.
4. Perform microtomy on embedded tissues and prepare slides for Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
5. Carry out coverslipping of stained slides, utilizing both manual and automated techniques.
6. Formulate solutions and reagents for specialized staining procedures and validate tissue for these stains.
7. Execute all special staining protocols and, when necessary, prepare solutions for immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures.
8. Ensure the proper validation of control materials used in IHC testing and may conduct IHC tests as required.
9. Maintain an organized filing system for finished blocks and slides, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment, addressing minor issues as they arise.
10. Document any remedial actions taken, including repairs or repeated tests, to maintain quality assurance.

Training and Compliance:
Provide mentorship and training to junior Histotechnicians, students, and laboratory aides. Uphold the laboratory's quality control standards and meticulously document all quality control activities. Ensure adherence to all relevant local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations, while maintaining a tidy and organized workspace.

Qualifications:
Prior experience in histotechnology is essential. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, and certification as an ASCP HT is required.
