Job Title: Petroleum Inspector

At SGS, we are seeking a skilled Petroleum Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our inspection team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of bulk liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon or chemical cargo.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct physical sampling, measurement, and temperature checks of vessel tanks and shore tanks in accordance with company and API procedures.
  • Follow safety standards and perform tasks efficiently, working within defined technical processes and procedures.
  • Calculate and report quantities of transferred bulk liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon, and perform full reconciliation.
  • Complete all required reports and forms using SGS's proprietary Ship Inspection Report (SIR) and/or Site Acceptance Test (SAT) systems.
  • Collaborate with client representatives, US Customs, vessel personnel, government agents, and shore facility personnel.
  • Maintain regular communication with business unit office staff regarding job status, problems, concerns, and other relevant information.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry, client, and SGS internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to the highest standards of ethics, as outlined in the SGS Code of Integrity, and follow all company safety practices.
  • Assist with other branch duties as assigned, including back office support and housekeeping tasks.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 months to 2 years of transferrable industry experience required.
  • Completion of the internal Inspector Development Program (Level) preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) preferred.
  • International Federation of Inspection Agencies (IFIA) Certification preferred.
Working Conditions:

This role requires frequent standing, moving, and traversing, as well as occasional sitting. The ability to use hands, reach, climb, and balance is essential. The position also involves talking and hearing constantly, with occasional taste/smell requirements. Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds is frequently required.
