Job Summary:
The Event Specialist plays a crucial role in the operations and management of events, overseeing various responsibilities related to the organization, support, and execution of events within the Student Union.
This role involves providing leadership, guidance, and training to student building managers, student set-up teams, and student event service representatives.
Candidates should exhibit strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership capabilities.
The Event Specialist is tasked with designing, implementing, and assessing procedures, policies, and practices to ensure thorough and accurate work, ultimately delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.
Effective delegation of facility-related services is essential, with oversight through signed checklists, worksheets, and other documentation.
This position is responsible for producing accurate and timely reports related to nighttime, theater, and ballroom activities.
Additionally, the Event Specialist shares accountability for the precise setup, design, preparation, and dismantling of events held in the Student Union Meeting rooms.
Maintenance and care of all physical resources, including tables, chairs, and audio/visual equipment, fall under this role's responsibilities.
Seasonal variations in work hours are expected, with operational hours changing during summer, breaks, and holidays.
Flexibility in hours may be required to accommodate the demands of meetings, events, or other activities.
This position may involve exposure to high-pressure situations and potential confrontations with guests.
Proper ergonomics, heavy lifting, and the ability to stand for extended periods are necessary.
Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
A High School diploma or GED with four years of relevant experience, or two years of post-secondary education coupled with two years of related experience.
Experience with audio-visual equipment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, or a related field is preferred.
Six years of customer service experience, exceptional interpersonal skills, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities are desired, along with experience in managing full-time staff.
