Truck Operations Specialist

Job Summary
Under the supervision of a qualified supervisor, the Truck Driver will operate and maintain light or heavy trucks, some of which may be equipped with power appliances. The ideal candidate will have a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License, with endorsements for vehicles with air brakes, combination vehicles, hazardous materials, and tanker vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a wide variety of motor-driven vehicles and haul supplies, tools, materials, equipment, and employees to and from designated locations.
- Operate power attachments and accessories on vehicles, including lift gates, power winches, snow plows, cutting decks, salt spreaders, or other equipment.
- Make minor repairs and adjustments, inspect assigned vehicles, attachments, and accessories, and loads for safe operation in the field, keep equipment clean and supplied with required lubricants, and keep a maintenance record.
- Connect trailers and other attachments, secure loads, and load and unload materials and equipment transported, as necessary to complete assignments.
- Act as a safety person on site at locations requiring a safety man, and communicate with laborers and heavy equipment operators as necessary to safely assist in loading activities and traffic control situations.
- Review and interpret rule books, equipment manuals, and road maps.
- Take prompt corrective action as needed in response to emergency situations, such as malfunctioning equipment, vehicular accidents, or disrupted operational processes.
- Communicate on a regular basis with supervisors, laborers, and other personnel to properly conduct, coordinate, and carry out assignments.
Additional Responsibilities
- Obtain materials and supplies from retail suppliers as directed.
- Obtain and deliver mail, small parts, correspondence to and from the plant and field locations.
- Communicate with engineers, dispatchers, treatment plant operators, and other work groups via radio, to coordinate related activities and relay messages/instructions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
May involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and/or noxious odors and traffic. May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout and outside the plant facility and collection system.
Requirements
- Considerable knowledge of the operating characteristics of light to medium trucks with power accessories.
- Considerable knowledge of the routine maintenance requirements of light automotive equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of driving laws and regulations.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to automotive equipment in the field.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
