Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Chair of the Department of Physics at East Carolina University. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the department's academic and research programs, fostering a culture of excellence, and promoting collaboration among faculty members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the administration and leadership of the department, ensuring alignment with university goals and objectives.
  • Promote excellence in faculty research and teaching, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Mentor faculty members, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their career goals.
  • Assist in efforts to secure external funding, developing and implementing strategies to secure grants and other forms of support.
  • Ensure the quality, integrity, and growth of student degree programs, working closely with faculty members and other stakeholders.
  • Support departmental, college, and university policies and standards, ensuring compliance and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Foster collegial relations among all stakeholders, including faculty members, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Represent the department to internal and external constituents, promoting its mission and values.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Physics or a closely related discipline.
  • A strong and continuing record of scholarly publications and productivity, commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and service, with a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Administrative experience or evidence of management skills, commensurate with the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in leading academic departments or programs, with a proven track record of success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a demonstrated ability to promote a culture of inclusivity and respect.
