Child and Family Services of NY is seeking a skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team.
Job Summary:The Recreation Therapist will work with residents to assess their skills and develop individualized treatment plans. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess residents' social and interpersonal skills, psychomotor and cardiovascular abilities
- Develop treatment plans and goals to improve or develop residents' capacity for social and/or recreational involvement
- Plan and implement therapeutic and recreational activities to promote social and recreational skills
- Participate in treatment team meetings and ensure assigned treatment recommendations are carried out
- Ensure program compliance with agency and department policies, federal, state, and county regulations
- Master's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation from a program approved by the New York State Education Department
- Minimum of one year's experience providing treatment to emotionally disturbed children and their parents, with experience in a residential placement setting preferred
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to deescalate and manage difficult behaviors of children and initiate or participate in physical interventions when necessary
