Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified ESL Instructor to join our team at Johnson County Community College. As an ESL Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching English to non-native speakers in a student-centered classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and submit weekly lesson plans to the building lead.
  • Implement the required curriculum that emphasizes life skills, workplace skills, digital literacy, and civics/citizenship.
  • Access and utilize the JCAE ESL website and other online resources to teach in a classroom setting.
  • Maintain student data, attendance records, and other online resources.
  • Complete student reports at the end of each semester.
  • Participate in new student intake on-boarding, including registration, orientation, and testing.
  • Participate in staff development activities, both online and in-person, each semester.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Work with the building lead to schedule a formal observation and debrief.
  • Fulfill other duties as required by business necessity.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language, or a related area.
  • Experience working with English language learners in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to create and maintain a student-centered classroom.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Flexibility in teaching practices and scheduling.
  • Minimum of one year teaching in a classroom setting.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • TESOL certificate from an accredited university or Master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language.
  • Ability to work with a diverse adult student population.
  • Experience teaching adult English Language Learners.
