We are seeking a highly qualified ESL Instructor to join our team at Johnson County Community College. As an ESL Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching English to non-native speakers in a student-centered classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities- Create and submit weekly lesson plans to the building lead.
- Implement the required curriculum that emphasizes life skills, workplace skills, digital literacy, and civics/citizenship.
- Access and utilize the JCAE ESL website and other online resources to teach in a classroom setting.
- Maintain student data, attendance records, and other online resources.
- Complete student reports at the end of each semester.
- Participate in new student intake on-boarding, including registration, orientation, and testing.
- Participate in staff development activities, both online and in-person, each semester.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Work with the building lead to schedule a formal observation and debrief.
- Fulfill other duties as required by business necessity.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language, or a related area.
- Experience working with English language learners in a classroom setting.
- Ability to create and maintain a student-centered classroom.
- Classroom management skills.
- Flexibility in teaching practices and scheduling.
- Minimum of one year teaching in a classroom setting.
- Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
- TESOL certificate from an accredited university or Master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language.
- Ability to work with a diverse adult student population.
- Experience teaching adult English Language Learners.
