Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Apprentice to join our team. As a Building Maintenance Apprentice, you will work in all areas of building maintenance on a daily basis, performing tasks such as:
- Maintaining and repairing building structures, including ice machines, elevators, overhead doors, dock locks, high-speed doors, and lighting.
- Assisting HVAC technicians and systems technicians.
- Performing regular PMs on equipment and documenting safety checks.
- Troubleshooting essential equipment throughout the plant.
- Maintaining and repairing roof structures throughout the plant.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Working independently in a potentially isolated area of the building.
- Ability to work at heights (with or without fall protection).
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and proven ability to apply that knowledge.
- Basic trouble-shooting skills.
- Able to climb ladders safely and without assistance for a minimum of 4 times per hour.
- Ability to work in extremes of heat and cold.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds at a minimum of 5 times per day.
- Ability to lift 35 lbs. over shoulder height a minimum of 1 time per hour.
- Ability to work in a dusty environment.
- Ability to climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance at a minimum of 3 times per day.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift in high-traffic, low-clearance areas while not posing a safety risk to others.
- Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms, and horns on forklifts.
- Stereoptic vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater.
- Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.
- Verbal communication adequate to use a radio and/or paging system to contact other co-workers in other areas of the complex.
- Able to work overhead or in awkward positions on a frequent basis.
- Ability to participate in an apprenticeship program.
- Able to stand/walk 7 hours of an 8-hour shift.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- A high school diploma/GED equivalent.
- Able to work independently in a potentially isolated area of the building.
