We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Primary Care Physician to join our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a Primary Care Physician, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care to adults and older adults, assessing patients, and ensuring safe and efficient healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Provide quality patient-centered care to adults and older adults, as assigned by the ACOS of Primary Care.
- Assess patients using advanced clinical judgment and physical assessment skills, identifying acute, non-acute, and chronic health problems.
- Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality healthcare delivery within the department.
- Ensure appropriate initial evaluation, treatment, and consultation, as well as documentation, consistent with current VHA Directive and VHNIHCS policies on Emergency Medicine.
- For admissions to the inpatient units, ensure a physician-to-physician conversation regarding the need for admission, including diagnoses, assessment, and recommendations.
- Demonstrate sound decision-making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians.
- Daily care of patients also entails regular interaction with nursing, coordination of consultations and care, and facilitation of diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures.
- Ensure a sign-out to the oncoming physician to ensure an informed transition of care; coordinate with the admitting physician and consultants to organize diagnostic and treatment plans for all patients pending admission.
- Maintain appropriate clinical privileges in order to fulfill the duties of assignment within Primary Care Service.
- United States Citizenship.
- Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Licensure and Registration: Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
- Board Certified or Board Eligible.
