Position Overview
The School of Health Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is inviting applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty role in the Counseling and Rehabilitation Education (CARE) program.
This position is designed for an individual who will engage in teaching graduate-level courses in clinical mental health and rehabilitation counseling, alongside specialized subjects. Responsibilities may also encompass the supervision of practicum and internship experiences.Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver graduate instruction in clinical mental health and rehabilitation counseling.
2. Supervise students during their practicum and internship placements.
3. Foster a research agenda that leads to publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
4. Pursue external funding opportunities aligned with research interests.
5. Mentor and guide students in their academic and professional journeys.
6. Contribute to community service and uphold the standards of the School, College, and University.
7. Participate in program evaluation and accreditation processes.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Counselor or Rehabilitation Education from a CACREP-accredited institution. Candidates with a minimum of one full academic year of experience as full-time faculty in a counselor or rehabilitation education program prior to a specified date will be considered. For those seeking the Assistant Professor rank, ABD candidates will be considered if all degree requirements are fulfilled by a specified date. If not, a one-year, non-tenure track appointment may be offered at a reduced salary in accordance with University policies.
For the Associate Professor rank, candidates are expected to assume the role of Program Director for the CARE program and demonstrate a strong record of teaching effectiveness and scholarly contributions.
All applicants must secure Illinois professional counseling licensure within one year of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who are certified rehabilitation counselors, certified alcohol and drug counselors, or licensed professional counselors. Additional preference will be for those with post-master's experience in relevant counseling fields, experience in developing online/hybrid education formats, and prior university teaching experience.
