Position Overview

The CVOR Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the operating room, specifically focusing on cardiovascular procedures. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and a commitment to patient care.

Certification Requirements
  • BLS and CST Verification are mandatory.
  • ND UAP certification is required.
Job Specifications
  • Specialty: CVOR Tech 6210
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Work Schedule: Guaranteed 32 hours per week, with a typical schedule of 40 hours per week, consisting of 8-hour shifts from Monday to Friday for open heart cases. On-call duties are expected approximately 3-4 times per week, including every other to every third weekend.
  • Floating Responsibilities: Must be prepared to float as needed.
Essential Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) verification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of CVOR experience is required, particularly with open heart surgeries, CABG, and valve procedures.
  • Ability to perform first scrub duties is essential.
  • Willingness to cross-train into general OR if cardiovascular volumes are low.
  • Flexibility to float to the floor as a 1:1 sitter is necessary.
  • Availability to work during holidays is required.
Schedule Details
  • Shifts: Monday to Friday, starting at 6 AM for Open Heart Case Preparation.
  • Weeknight On-Call: 3-4 times per week.
  • Weekend On-Call: Every other to every third weekend, from Friday at 3:15 PM to Monday at 6:45 AM.
  • Holiday On-Call: Rotating holidays.
  • Call Response Time: 15 minutes.
  • Post-Call Reprieve: 8-hour reprieve shifts are provided.
  • Sleep Room: Available for on-call staff.
Unit Specifics
  • Number of Suites: 2 CVOR suites.
  • Average Cases Per Day: 1-3.
  • Common Procedures: Open hearts (CABG, Valve, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, Convergent, AAA, carotids, ION robotic cases, ECMO, Impella 5.5, Stryker towers.
  • Managerial Support: Charge Nurse available for all shifts from 7 AM to 11 PM, Monday to Friday, and from 7 AM to 7 PM on weekends.
Additional Information
  • Required Certifications: BLS, CST or NCCT, ND UAP.
  • Floating Requirements: Must be willing to cross-train to other OR specialties if cardiovascular volumes are low.
  • Uniform Policy: Scrubs provided.
  • Work Environment: The department fosters a family-like atmosphere.
  • Radius Rule: Candidates must reside within 50 miles and cannot be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with the organization.
  • Request Time Off: Must be communicated upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional requests will not be accommodated.
