Compensation: $60 per hour

Responsibilities of the Physical Therapist:
  • Collects essential information to accurately assess and treat referred patients.
  • Conducts comprehensive initial evaluations for patients referred by physicians or according to departmental protocols.
  • Designs and implements tailored treatment plans based on thorough neuro-muscular assessments.
  • Creates treatment strategies with both long-term and short-term objectives, securing approval from referring physicians before initiating therapy.
  • Communicates effectively with medical staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure necessary adjustments to treatment prescriptions and plans.
  • Administers and supervises various therapeutic modalities.
  • Advises patients on equipment and assistive devices, providing instruction on their use and maintenance.
  • Coordinates home therapy programs and community service referrals through social services and/or the Physical Therapy manager.
  • Keeps detailed records for all patients, documenting therapy prescriptions, patient issues, responses to treatment, and other relevant observations.
  • Gathers additional information to refine treatment approaches and make referrals to other disciplines as needed.
  • Engages in quality assessment initiatives and continuing education programs, ensuring the safety of patients and staff within the therapeutic environment.
  • Participates in community outreach and educational activities related to Physical Therapy as required.
Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution recognized by the Committee on Accreditation in Education, American Physical Therapy Association.

    *A Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy obtained prior to January 2016 is acceptable.
  • Completion of a clinical internship in Physical Therapy.
  • Valid licensure to practice in the District of Columbia.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Specialized expertise in managing specific disabilities, such as cardiovascular or neurological conditions, is preferred.

Ability to prioritize treatment and exercise independent, ethical judgment in executing therapeutic programs and care plans.

Capacity to adapt standard Physical Therapy techniques to accommodate the needs of diverse populations.

Good physical health and manual dexterity necessary for performing standard Physical Therapy procedures and handling equipment.

Knowledge of clinical and financial data collection and reporting, with proficiency in both oral and written English.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, physicians, hospital officials, and the public.
