Substation Leadman

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Leadman to join our team at Overland Contracting Inc. As a Substation Leadman, you will be responsible for leading a team of craft workers in the planning, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of high voltage substation wiring, electrical fixtures, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support all safety-related processes and programs.
• Engage with your work team to ensure zero injuries.
• Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional.
• Use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved.
• Review crew's timecards for correct hours and activity designation.
• Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor.
• Participate in investigation process as needed.
• Lead, complete, and sign off on daily pre-job safety planning.
• Identify safety hazards and take corrective action.
• Assure all crew members understand and sign pre-job safety planning tools.
• Understand and respond to safety hazards and warning devices.
• Follow established safety rules and regulations.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Provide on-the-job training to those under your supervision.
• Train safety practices, policies, and procedures.
• Perform task planning to safely and efficiently carry out work assigned.
• Plan and communicate with supervisor to assure adequate supply of tools, materials, and equipment.

Management Responsibilities

As a Substation Leadman, you will be responsible for leading a team of craft workers and ensuring the safe and efficient completion of projects. You will work closely with your supervisor to plan and coordinate work, and will be responsible for identifying and mitigating safety hazards.

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more of the following certifications: NCCER Electrician, NCCER Carpenter, NCCER Concrete Finisher, NCCER Heavy Equipment Operations, NCCER Rigging.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have working experience as a Substation Journeyman or equivalent combination of education and experience in an industrial construction setting. Strong working knowledge of project specifications and high voltage electrical and civil industry standards. Must have working knowledge of electrical substation components, fabrication, and erection of forms, and placement of rebar.

Certifications

For Crane Operations, an OSHA-approved certification is required (i.e. NCCCO or CIC Certification). NCCER Electrician, NCCER Carpenter, NCCER Concrete Finisher, NCCER Heavy Equipment Operations, NCCER Rigging.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This position requires working in a typical construction site environment, with exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, wind, snow, rain, and other outside conditions. You will be required to work in cramped work spaces, get into awkward positions, and work around hazardous equipment.
