Work Schedule:
7 AM - 7 PM on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
On-call responsibilities include Tuesday night from 7 PM to 7 AM and every fifth weekend.
Key Responsibilities:
The MRI Technologist is accountable for the daily operations of the MRI modality.
This role involves performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in accordance with established protocols while collaborating closely with Radiologists and other medical professionals.
Additionally, the MRI Technologist is expected to assist in the training and onboarding of new staff and provide guidance to MRI students.
Essential Duties:
- Completes assigned tasks efficiently, demonstrating adaptability to changes in workload.
- Selects and operates the MRI system, surface coils, and related equipment to achieve optimal imaging results.
- Applies magnetic resonance safety principles to minimize risks to patients and staff.
- Positions patients correctly on the MRI table, inputs necessary information, and selects scan parameters as per protocols and physician requests.
- Administers IV injections and is knowledgeable about the use and maintenance of IVs, as well as administering magnetic contrast agents.
- Utilizes various computer functions to enhance image quality and performs quality assurance tests as per departmental guidelines.
- Ensures direct patient care by verifying patient identity and related information, explaining procedures, and preparing patients by obtaining necessary history and consent.
- Monitors patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure, troubleshooting equipment issues when necessary.
- Participates in the education of students and the orientation of new staff members.
- Engages in performance improvement initiatives and assists the department in meeting compliance standards.
- Maintains controlled access to the MRI room and oversees quality control duties.
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
Qualifications:
- Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Diagnostic Radiology with Advanced MRI Registry (MR) is required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
- BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is preferred upon hire and must be obtained from an approved source prior to direct patient care.
- Associate's degree from an ARRT accredited institution is preferred.
- Preferred experience includes at least one year in an MRI department within a hospital setting.
- Familiarity with EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) is advantageous.
