POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing the functionality and reliability of all production and facility equipment. This is achieved through effective scheduling, assisting with, and auditing the quality of all preventative maintenance tasks, while also providing training to Technicians to improve their PM-related skills. This managerial position primarily oversees maintenance operations at our Syracuse facility, manages coin-operated laundry services, and ensures the upkeep of buildings and grounds across both locations, all while fostering a positive and urgent work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all maintenance operations within the facility, reporting directly to the Director of Maintenance.
- Schedule, recruit, train, and lead the Technician team.
- Support the Technician team in completing work orders efficiently.
- Evaluate the quality of Technician PM work, providing constructive feedback and training as necessary.
- Adjust maintenance schedules to ensure timely repairs are executed.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Managing the upkeep of buildings and grounds for both facilities, including snow removal and landscaping.
- Collaborating with both Vice Presidents on safety and accreditation matters, ensuring compliance with current and future standards.
- Completing various tasks as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and maintaining regular communication with the Director.
- Assisting in maintaining an inventory of parts to support ongoing operations.
- Meeting formally with the Director of Maintenance at least once a week.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Frequent bending, lifting, kneeling, stretching, and reaching.
- Full dexterity with both hands and wrists, along with regular walking throughout the facility and grounds.
- Capability to safely climb ladders and navigate gangways.
- Work conditions may involve small spaces, dust, odors, temperature variations, noise, vibrations, and standing on concrete for extended periods.
- Must be able to stand or walk for up to 8 hours.
- Work schedule typically involves approximately 50 hours per week, with potential for additional hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of five years of experience in repairing industrial processing equipment within an industrial setting or military background.
- At least two years of supervisory and maintenance management experience.
- Proficient knowledge of equipment, including electrical, electronic components, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Ability to read maintenance literature in English.
- Prior experience with blueprints or electrical schematic drawings.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
