Position Summary
The Surgical Technician plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional preoperative patient care through the proficient use of surgical instruments and equipment. This role serves as a scrub assistant to the surgeon during various operative and invasive procedures. Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technician utilizes their expertise to act as a resource and mentor for fellow staff members.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitates the operational goals of the unit by acting as a resource specialist within a designated operating room area or specialty service.- Maintains a sterile environment throughout all surgical procedures.
- Exhibits a comprehensive understanding of aseptic techniques and advanced surgical practices, ensuring optimal patient care across diverse elective and emergency scenarios.
- Confirms the availability and functionality of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to procedures, adhering to the surgeon's preferences.
- Ensures patient safety by following established policies, procedures, and standards of care while managing resources effectively.
- Encourages professional development by fulfilling continuing education requirements and supporting departmental objectives.
- Prepares and assists the surgical team by scrubbing in, passing instruments, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon during procedures.
- Post-surgery, ensures proper handling of specimens and instrumentation, maintaining compliance with safety protocols.
- Conducts equipment checks and reports any unsafe conditions promptly.
- Responsible for cleaning, organizing, and restocking the operating room and related areas between surgical cases.
- Assists in the transportation of patients as necessary.
- May be required to be on-call and work outside of regular hours as needed.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

- Adheres to all safety regulations and infection control policies, including OSHA and fire safety standards.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program and current certification from a recognized board.
- 2-3 years of experience as a surgical technologist with proficiency in multiple surgical specialties.
- Demonstrates clinical competency across various specialty areas as required by the facility.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and communicate effectively.
- Basic mathematical skills for managing supplies and instruments.
- Proficient in using technology and basic computer skills.
- Current BLS certification.
Physical Requirements
- Must have adequate vision, hearing, and the ability to perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
- Operates in a well-lit, climate-controlled indoor setting with proper ventilation.
