Position Overview:
The Practical Nurse Specialist is responsible for demonstrating specific competencies within their unit or department, particularly in the care of adult and elderly patients. This role is integral to the Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOC) and involves direct patient care within the scope of nursing practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures in an understandable manner while considering individual age-related and gender-specific needs.
  • Ensure a supportive physical and emotional environment that aligns with patient-centered care principles.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests for assistance, maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff and the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) to facilitate a seamless patient experience.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families, aiding in their adjustment to health changes.
  • Respect patient privacy and dignity throughout all aspects of care delivery.
  • Prepare patients for various tests and treatments, including advanced procedures such as chest tube insertions and lumbar punctures.
  • Administer prescribed medications accurately and document all actions in accordance with established policies.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations, ensuring timely reporting to the appropriate nursing staff.
  • Educate patients on daily living activities and self-care practices to promote independence.
  • Perform a variety of nursing procedures and treatments, adhering to established care plans.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory analysis and assist in diagnostic procedures.
  • Participate in the Safe Patient Handling Program to prevent injuries during patient transfers.

Work Schedule:
Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Conditions of Employment:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet all qualifications by the closing date of the announcement. Compliance with health and safety regulations, including vaccinations, is mandatory for all personnel.

Qualifications:
To qualify, candidates must possess a valid and unrestricted license as a practical nurse and have completed an accredited nursing program. Experience in patient care settings is preferred, and proficiency in English is required.
