Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter to join our team at Upchurch Companies, a leading comprehensive contracting business offering a wide range of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical services.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with various pipes (e.g., copper, steel, plastic) and systems such as heating, cooling, steam, and hydraulic. This role requires precise measuring, cutting, and threading of pipes, as well as a strong understanding of blueprints, safety regulations, and local codes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pipe Installation: Install and repair piping systems used for steam, water, gas, and chemicals.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to determine the layout of piping systems.
  • Pipe Fabrication: Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to the required angle using hand tools, machines, or power tools.
  • Welding and Brazing: Assemble and weld pipe sections, supports, and related equipment, following all safety guidelines.
  • System Testing: Conduct pressure tests on piping systems to identify leaks and troubleshoot issues.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety standards, OSHA regulations, and local codes to ensure proper installation and function.
  • Troubleshooting: Inspect systems to detect problems, and repair or replace defective parts when necessary.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and hours worked for each project.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair tools, equipment, and machinery required for the job.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 1-5 years of experience as a pipefitter in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certified pipefitter or journeyman-level certification preferred. Welding certification is a plus.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and piping schematics.
    • Knowledge of pipe materials (steel, copper, plastic) and joining techniques.
    • Experience using pipefitting tools and equipment (e.g., pipe threaders, cutters, welding torches).
    • Must be knowledgeable of welding, threading, cutting, brazing, & solvent weld type materials.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and work at heights. Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with piping systems efficiently.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills to interact with team members and supervisors.
  • Time management Skills: Have the ability to meet project deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on large industrial projects (e.g., refineries, power plants).
  • Familiarity with complex systems like HVAC, chemical piping, or food processing plants.
  • Specialized training in advanced pipe welding techniques.
Work Environment:
  • Work Hours: Full-time position, with occasional overtime during peak project periods.
  • Job Sites: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often in challenging weather conditions.
