This position is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of HVAC systems within the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and maintain refrigeration equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Inspect and maintain HVAC controls to prevent system failures and ensure smooth operation.
- Complete required documentation and reports to track maintenance activities and system performance.
- Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs as needed to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations, including local, state, and federal codes and standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and repair manuals to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical systems.
- Perform work in compliance with applicable codes and standards, and in accordance with industry best practices.
- Coordinate and inspect the installation of new HVAC systems in schools to ensure proper installation and commissioning.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure efficient workflow and minimize safety risks.
- Be available on-call to respond to emergency situations and provide support as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities and Trades Foreman or other authorized personnel.
- Completion of an apprentice program in air conditioning, refrigeration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Extensive experience as a journeyman HVAC mechanic, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
- Knowledge of theory, application, diagnostics, and troubleshooting associated with heating, water, and drainage systems.
- Knowledge of theory, application, diagnostics, and troubleshooting associated with electrical systems.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Virginia, with a good driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, use test instrumentation, and use hand and power tools.
- Ability to use computer hardware and software programs for preventative maintenance activities.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software applications.
- Frequent deadlines, changing priorities, and work in high areas and close quarters.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor and lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand, stoop, and bend for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in various types of environmental conditions.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
