Patient Service Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Service Specialist to join our team. As a Patient Service Specialist, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients, answering phone calls, and performing various administrative tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations in our physician practice.
Responsibilities:
- Answer phone calls and route them appropriately, taking messages and following up with each message to ensure the appropriate physician or staff member receives the information.
- Provide routine information to callers and give only authorized medical advice from a provider.
- Provide a high level of customer service to all new and existing patients of the practice.
- Create patient cases and document telephone calls and messages into our electronic medical record system.
- Schedule patient appointments and appropriate testing for patients as requested.
- Register patients in our electronic medical record system and verify information, including demographics and obtain accurate health insurance information.
- Conduct eligibility checks to ensure insurance is reflected accurately.
- Collect required insurance co-pays from patients, including any prior balances.
- Follow scheduling notes and direct schedules patient visits in other SMG practices as advised.
- Perform pre-visit planning daily for all upcoming scheduled appointments, including running insurance eligibility.
- Responsible to obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as per practice need.
- Perform outreach to select patient groups as directed for patient care and quality measurement/guidelines.
- Schedule specialty appointments/testing as required.
- Perform work in electronic medical record buckets as directed and per practice need.
- Responsible to inform manager of administrative supply needs or assists with ordering.
- Follow up with providers on missing slips and create claims in our electronic medical record system.
- Responsible to work assigned revenue cycle buckets as directed.
Requirements:
- Strong customer service excellence expected.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- One to three years as a medical secretary preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records strongly preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
