Detention Sergeant

The Detention Sergeant is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the jail, ensuring the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Supervise and manage a team of detention deputies, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.
• Ensure the security and safety of the jail, including conducting regular searches and monitoring inmate activity.
• Coordinate with other departments, such as law enforcement and court services, to ensure seamless operations.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve jail operations and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Collaborate with other supervisors to address issues and concerns, and provide support and guidance as needed.

• Five years of experience in a detention or correctional setting, with at least two years of supervisory experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent, with some college coursework or a degree in a related field preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and to work in a physically demanding environment.
• Ability to pass a background check and obtain any necessary certifications or training.
