Job Summary

The District of Columbia Housing Authority is seeking a skilled Laborer to perform a variety of laboring duties in connection with the upkeep of structures and land owned and/or leased by the Authority.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clears lots, private alley spaces, and yards of solid waste using rakes, shovels, and brooms.
  • Gathers solid waste, dirt, debris, etc., from rooms, halls, and basements.
  • Shovels snow from sidewalks and uses heavy power mowers to cut grass.
  • Assists tradesmen with carrying ladders, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with tools, materials, and equipment.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's permit.
  • Ability to operate heavy power equipment and work safely with heavy tools.
  • Ability to complete assignments involving several tasks or processes.
Working Conditions

The Laborer will work outside in all types of weather conditions and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and noisy.

The equipment, tools, and tasks involved require special care to avoid serious injuries and frequently require the use of safety gloves, ear plugs, or safety glasses.
