Key Responsibilities and QualificationsReporting to the Nursing Director, the Nursing Manager for the Medical Surgical Unit is accountable for daily operations and overall management of the nursing department, ensuring effective leadership, communication, and appropriate staff discipline. The Nursing Manager oversees the charge nurse to ensure they fulfill their supervisory duties. This role requires 24/7 oversight of patient care coordination, administrative functions, and nursing activities, ensuring high-quality nursing services.
The Nursing Manager is responsible for implementing and assessing all nursing care and related activities, including:
- Clinical nursing practice management
- Staff recruitment and retention
- Labor relations
- Supply chain and budget management
- Staffing and performance evaluations
- Quality improvement initiatives
- Staff education and training
- Compliance with regulatory standards
A. Licensure/Certification:
Current and valid Registered Nurse License in South Carolina or a Multistate Compact RN License is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required within 30 days of hire.
ACLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
NIH Stroke Scale certification is required within 90 days of hire.
National certification in the specialty area is preferred.
B. Education: Graduation from a NLN accredited nursing program is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
C. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in Med/Surg nursing is required, with at least 1 year in a leadership role preferred.
