Patient Care Technician Ortho Neuro Trauma Specialist

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in our Orthopedic and Neurological Care Unit at Research Medical Center. As a member of our team, you will assist the nursing staff in providing exceptional patient care, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the implementation of nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
- Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information, including vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information as outlined by policy.
- Assist with mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulating patients. Assist with use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs. Transfers patients to and from other units, departments, or entities.
- Assist with discharges and ensure a smooth transition for patients.
- Demonstrate proper body mechanics and maintain a safe working environment.
- Obtain or assist in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests, ensuring accuracy of all labels and timely transfer of specimen.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination. Change bed linens as needed.
- Serve as Monitor/Telemetry Tech for the unit as needed.
- Engage in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
