Rail Car Repair Technician Job Description

At CalmHR Inc, we are seeking a skilled Rail Car Repair Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on rail cars to ensure they are safe and operational.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform MIG welding tasks with precision and efficiency.
  • Utilize an oxygen/acetylene (propane) torch for cutting and welding.
  • Demonstrate good spatial awareness to effectively interpret and work with blueprints and layouts.
  • Maintain a keen eye for detail to notice any discrepancies or potential issues in the work environment.
  • Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Inspect welds for accuracy and quality, making necessary adjustments to maintain precision.
  • Operate hand and power tools to prepare materials for welding.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools.
  • Ability to constantly use bending, squatting, twisting, and walking motions throughout the entire work shift.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Ability to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of the job, including heavy lifting and extensive walking.
  • Ability to occasionally climb, using various types of ladders.

Requirements:

  • Good time management skills.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Dependable and willing to work flexible hours.
  • Strong Mechanical background.
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development in welding practice.
  • Forklift operation experience preferred.
