NICU Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for initiating, administering, and monitoring all respiratory therapeutic and diagnostic procedures according to established policies and procedures of the NICU, department, and North Oaks Health System. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree from an AMA-approved program in respiratory therapy, a current Louisiana license as a Respiratory Therapist, and a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience.
Responsibilities:
• Provide continuous oxygen, humidity, aerosol therapy, and RAM cannula according to hospital and department policy and procedure.
• Perform intermittent and continuous aerosol therapy, chest physical therapy, intubations, and ET tube change-outs.
• Administer surfactant replacement therapy and 12-lead EKGs as ordered by the physician.
Equipment and Safety:
• Ensure the area is adequately stocked with necessary equipment.
• Clean and disinfect all non-disposable equipment used.
• Take corrective action as necessary to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
Communication and Teamwork:
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, physicians, nurses, and department personnel.
• Work collaboratively with nursing staff to coordinate direct patient care.
• Provide accurate and concise reports at change of shift within allotted time.
Requirements:
• Graduate degree from an AMA-approved program in respiratory therapy.
• Current Louisiana license as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Minimum of 2 years of NICU experience.
• BCLS and NRP certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks accordingly.
Physical Effort:
• Medium strength required for lifting and carrying equipment.
• Constant standing and walking required for patient care and equipment management.
North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs:
The Respiratory Therapist will be expected to adhere to all NOHS and OSHA safety and infection control policies, as well as follow North Oaks Health System's Compliance programs and all Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
